Magento 1 Bullshit-Story – “PayPal – Subject: End of Life of the Magento 1.x platform.”

Today we received an email from PayPal, which is the end of life of Magento 1 praises in a way, that I just had to write this article. PayPal writes in this mail among other things:

Our records show, that you may
Process payment service transactions on a Magento 1.x platform, and prompt action on your part is required.

and still

You must have your commerce website by 30. June 2020 from the Magento 1.x platform to the Magento 2 or migrate another platform.

At this point I would like to emphasize, that this requested connection is clear and blatant WRONG is! It is certainly correct, that the official development of the Magento 1 version at the end of June 2020 is announced. That means in plain text, that the company Magento (owned by Adobe) no further developments in this version branch will flow from July (s.a. HERE). But that means clearly and clearly NOT, that this is the end of all Magento 1 installations or even, that from 01. July Magento 1 shop no longer works. That doesn't mean either, that one was going to Magento at this point 2 or switch to another platform got to.

Magento 1 will continue to work and run – even after 30. June 2020. It will continue to be used by the community in general, but also by special projects such as Mage One developed further. We too will become Magento 1 continue to support and develop and participate in the community to maintain M1.

Of course I can (and probably nobody else either) make a statement about how long this will be so but an end of Magento 1 is 100% not for that 30. June 2020 expected – as PayPal pretends to readers.

The purpose of the mail is in my opinion. Magento users 1 to panic and actionism, to switch them on M2, (oh look) PayPal shopping solutions or other platforms to move.

I can only say “Pooh!”

Since 2009 I have been working intensively with Magento. I started with the creation and operation of B2C stores. This was extended through my work in the logistics sector. This resulted first specialized B2E systems. Today I work day-a day with exciting B2C, B2B- and B2E projects and reports in this blog about challenges and give insider tips.

  1. I have just before 1 I received a similar email from Paypal this week and of course panic hit me. I knew that there would be no more official updates. However, I myself am very adorned in closing or closing all sources of error and gaps. not to let any arise in the first place.

I now have more of a panic from PayPal itself 01.07.20 pulls the plug and the Paypal API will no longer work, there is information on this? I haven't been able to find anything except for this post.

A move to Magento 2 would be possible for me. However, I find Magento 1.9 still great and, above all, much faster in terms of page loading and the like.
In my view, it can also be modified much more comfortably.

    1. According to my information, PP is not - as you can see in the mail (no, actually clearly reads out)- the plug on 01.07. pull. I think, that this would also mean a little stress for PP, if they would just switch off. I assume that, that there are agreements between PP and Magento or. Adobe gave, which to this “unhappy” formulated mail. Yes PP (from ebay) until a few years ago it was directly connected to Magento, one could have imagined the background back then. Today some people still seem to know each other.
