Actually, this should probably be closer to three questions 🙂
1. Thereby indexing worse? That depends on the rest of the page. Google loves content, which can have long between (Meta-)Different tags and content. It can not exist in the (Meta-)Tags much promise and then keep nothing in the content.
2. These are only invisible? No, there is no longer the complete function in Magento.
3. Would be a display:none better? I think, Google that these (known) Trick is not really good. Similar tags, will refer to not only fooled existing content here, that information is available, the (not visible to the user and thus) are not there. It may well come down to real punishments by Google, if you overdo it.
To give one answer to a question, which was not found: With the incredible grasp of the most important search engine in the world I would put priority on content and less on tricks.
