Magento – the image upload in backend no longer works and more often

“Flash is too uncertain and is switched off” – this news has been known for some time and now you know it but more and more. First you had to actively allow browsers, that Flash is used for and now it is beyond the scope of.

was aware of the problem with Flash for a long time in the field of image-Uploades in the parts management. Only gray areas were displayed, if you did not allow the use of flash. You had (e.g.. bei Firefox) up next to the URL / Address bar confirming the use of flash. Subsequently, the buttons were displayed and you could select images / Upload.

Now there are more and more problems during upload – even if approved Flash. The buttons are displayed, you can select and mark images. They are then shown with the file name on the left side next to the buttons. then Clicking on “Upload” the surface is discolored around the screen name yellow / orange and does not happen more. The upload is not working.Picture

This seems to be a new restriction on the use of Flash to be. I could live it called when a customer noticed and told, that he had this problem. I then signed up in the shop and had no problems during upload. I then updated to the latest version of Firefox and now had the problem.

Strangely, it is not only the browser, as some stores the upload not working. but maybe it is also one of the many caches, delaying this.

Remedy brings an alternative image upload. Still you have to help with an extension to this, but there are already some suppliers. I have personally been the extension “HTML5-Uploader” of Maven used. These are available for free even with Magentocommerce right in the download area and makes uploading even easier than it was previously.Picture

Just install and activate the backend. The extension replaces the old Upload feature complete.

You can still select multiple images at once and put directly drag and drop. The upload is quickly and easily. In contrast to the previous function to start the upload directly and not after clicking “Upload”.

Contrary to the information on Magentocommerce, is the extension not only for Magento 1.7-1.9 suitable but even works even at 1.4 (whoever that still used 😉 ).

And one more update on the same day:

Just fell on (you could just as well have come on it), that of the o.g. Problems are also affected downloadable products, where the downloaded file must be naturally once UPLOADED. And Magento uses this same logic as for the image upload. So the same here too yellow area around the filename.

Unfortunately I could not find a solution so far here yet – an update of the Flash player to the latest version brought nothing. What works in the short term: Try a different browser. With Internet Explorer it worked yet.

If there are news, I will report. Of course I'm happy about comments to the problem.

Used in Magento versions 1.4 – 1.9 Comments? Additions? Notes? Gladly!

Since 2009 I have been working intensively with Magento. I started with the creation and operation of B2C stores. This was extended through my work in the logistics sector. This resulted first specialized B2E systems. Today I work day-a day with exciting B2C, B2B- and B2E projects and reports in this blog about challenges and give insider tips.

  1. Hi I have magento 1.9.4.0 and seeking an extension or an indication, as the catalog search can be supplemented with images and improved. I will now probably in Magento 2 have to go, as more functions are given, but I use the old shop SEPA direct debit and do not realize for Magento 2 an available SEPA Direct Debit Extension.
It would be nice, if they could give me a hint.

  2. Hallo,

thanks for the great article. It really saved me a lot of time.

However, the html5 upload does not work with the category pictures.
Maybe you have an idea for it?

    Liebe Grüße

But file app/design/adminhtml/default/default/layout/maven_html5uploader.xml needs to be updated in order to make it working on product pages :
    copy … section
    paste above
    and change to and to

    1. what needs to be copied?
      and what inserted?

      what must be copied?
      and what pasted?

unfortunately the code is missing. can anyone name it? i am absolutely stuck here.
