Magento – Newsletter no double opt-in – no confirmation

PictureIn the newer versions of Magento, the possibility is offered for the shop a Confirmation for the Newsletter Sign up Send to. This is required by German law and therefore very deserving of thanks, that there is now this is already the default.

The so called. “Double Opt-In” But unfortunately method has a small hook: It works or only for guests. unregistered users. If you have already logged into the shop and also has the double opt-in process for registration of the user account used, you can just sign up and WITHOUT confirmation for the newsletter.

I think, that here no real violation Double opt-in provision exists against the, because the purpose of this regulation aims to ensure, that no mischief driven with external data. It should therefore be prevented, that any old person e.g.. concludes a Newsletter for a foreign email address.

In our specific case, however, it is, that the Double opt-in method is not only used, if the user has logged in with his login data already in his account. So it is quite safe, that one, of the Newsletter ordered the customer really.

If on the other hand tries a newsletter subscription e.g.. via “Enter your email address for our newsletter” Complete form in the bottom of the page and this email address already has an account, Magento is the error message, that one must be logged in, to order the newsletter. So here is an abuse only possible, if one has the strange login data.

My personal Opinion is so, that is sufficiently complied with German law.

If, however, to 100% want to make sure, you can free the extension Double opt-in newsletter for Customers the “Software architects” of Conlabz use.

This extension adds in the newsletter configuration yet another drop-down box where you can select Add, if you want to double opt-in method for users already registered or not to use.

In our test installation, it was a small conflict with another extension, which was corrected by the software architect but immediately. Now the extension does exactly what it should: In the case of a newsletter registration by a logged-in user but the confirmation email is sent.

Since 2009 I have been working intensively with Magento. I started with the creation and operation of B2C stores. This was extended through my work in the logistics sector. This resulted first specialized B2E systems. Today I work day-a day with exciting B2C, B2B- and B2E projects and reports in this blog about challenges and give insider tips.

  1. Hallo liebe Commercers,

danke für den Hinweis auf die Extension. Die Frage: “In our test installation, it was a small conflict with another extension, die von den Architekten Software wurde aber umgehend behoben.” macht mich neugierig – welche Extension machte Probleme, und wie wurde das gelöst?

    Thank 🙂

  2. Super Sache!

Everything there 🙂
