Meet Magento 2018 in Leipzig – a conclusion

Meet Magento 2018 Leipzig

The Meet Magento Germany (#MMDE18) found 2018 For the twelfth time instead. grew and is growing every year the number of participants. Emerged from a meeting of interested and closely networked Magento developers / Users it has become one of the leading Magento multiple sessions of the World. Meet here dealer, Agencies and developers for relaxed dialogue and in the wonderful ambience of Leipzig and the Congress Hall at the Zoo.

The Commercers this year were also there-not least because of the surprising nomination Top Ten Magento Store in Germany. “take a quick look” was the motto.

arrival Sunday, early enough, to the World Cup kick-off match between Germany and Mexico to pursue in Leipzig's city center and not on the highway. That “the team” 0:1 lost was not because hopefully, we watched the game at a Mexican restaurant.

After a brief orientation trip through the heady and vibrant city of Leipzig the day ended soon, to start on Monday morning with the registration in the Congress Hall. Everything was perfectly organized and newbies we -as- could meet in a specially set up lounge area to meet people. Here I felt the turbulent environment as something disturbing, because you could barely hear his opponent in the round of introductions. Anyone who knows our blog, white, that I practice whenever possible constructive criticism – So with an improvement proposal. Here, however, I miss this. It should be checked me 🙁 Especially Sonja and Andreas kudos for organizing (by the way: the silberenen “Welcome Balloon” were knorke!!!).
Then we went to the official opening and other points on the main stage (Note on our own behalf: I only found the program item “Meet Magento goes China” difficult to comprehend (in two senses)?) went to 18.25 Clock in exciting and / or interesting presentations of various speakers. Interrupted by a great lunch buffet – generally you needed to have no fear, that one had to sit with an empty stomach or dry palate in the lectures: The organizers ensured a mother for the welfare of participants.

I especially want to thank here Andreas von Studnitz (#avstudnitz) thank for his lecture on the future of Magento! Especially in relation to my article “Have I told you lately that I hate Magento 2?” He spoke to me from the soul when he said something “all people, have tried the M2.0 and M2.1 and gave up in frustration, should it try again with M2.3 in autumn”. Also Rico Neitzel (#riconeitzel) told me in a brief interview on Tuesday morning, that you can not currently M1 secure than “until” dismiss must just because there M2.
I was therefore not alone in my appreciation for M1 and M2 my reservations about. M1 has become over the years a very stable eCommerce system with a huge, international community and according to a lot of know-how. For me good reasons M1 continued to remain loyal to M2.3 to wait and positive to look to the future.

Moritzbastei LeipzigAt 20 AM rose in the historic “Moritzbastei” (@Moritzbastei) right next to the Leipzig University then MMDE18 after-show party. I have to say, I was flabbergasted: insanity Location (who has attended in Prague, feels the local vaulted cellar-Moritzbastei Leipzigbars recalls), great buffets including. Grill Buffet, great drinks menu (I seem to mind. 6 to remember beers), great weather and great atmosphere. According to event planners the party was to 23.30 PM stated, an end but the party was only towards 4 Pm on Tuesday.

This one noticed the next morning very clearly. The party had caused deep strikes into the population density in the Theater, so that day 2 the MMDE18 began with a clear audience. And with many of the few we saw, should remain that they would rather have in bed.

Meet Magento DE Award 2018

Even if we are due to the already described Vergleichsbarkeits deficits not much chance against the competition did the calculation, we were still HEAVY excited at the award ceremony for the best German Magento online store 2018. At this point, we congratulate the three winners (3. Frank Juice, 2. froogies, 1. Aigner).

This was followed by presentations and the not entirely surprising announcement, that the purchase of Magento by Adobe for nearly 1,7 billion. Dollar is now official. What does this mean for Magento, is questionable. I personally found the purchase of Magento by eBay 2011 obviously, because the intersections with PayPal as payment method and also a possible integration of eBay in Magento are obvious. A shopping platform buys online shop platform: Makes sense. But it was only a short joy and then sold eBay Magento 2015 back.

So now Adobe buy the world's most important (Queen) e-commerce system or. the company behind it. The intersection? Certainly not Photoshop – it comes to linking with the Magento Adobe-Experience-Cloud, Adobe since 2015 associated with its applications from the Creative Cloud. This resulted in a huge universe from different creative sectors will then result.

It will be interesting where the journey. My personal opinion: Magento will in future be less interesting for small and medium-sized enterprises. Even before its acquisition by Adobe step to Magento showed 2 clear, that it is not the developers of Magento to simplify administration and thus opening up more users – it's about professionalization.
go deeper into detail I would not at this point, but generally every economically oriented company has to make money and so you can safely assume, that Adobe has pretty much expected what brings them to purchase or bring COULD. For sure is: Adobe bring CE versions per se no turnover. they can repel CE but not, because Magento in toto is precious above all for a reason: Die Community – the User Base. Loses Magento community, Magento loses most of its value, because as much as I work with Magento and so we are aware more than 9 decided years for Magento, it is certainly not the only good e-commerce system on the market. A ride on a knife edge for Adobe.

In summary:

  • DIY with Magento will be less
  • “Magento” will be more expensive

Back to MMDE18. After further talks, I had the pleasure to talk with three representatives from PayPal and on problems related to PayPal, PayPal Plus as well as the extension of i-ways (s. HERE) enter into. Fortunately, it was a very constructive conversation and agreed by telephone feedback made one or. two days after the end of the conference. Very encouraging inter alia was. the commitment to take care of it, that we Subscription function of Magento, that works exclusively in conjunction with PayPal, can test closer soon. One thing, we had to implement for various projects ultimately otherwise (“Subscription as a simple product” or “Fair-Abo” (as a proprietary extension)), hopefully will be expanded to include an additional product in a timely manner.

After this conversation, the conference was also to end. Around us the stands of partners and sponsors were cleared and we were on our way back.

Conclusion of the Meet Magento Germany 2018:

  • Perfekte Location – both Leipzig as a city and the congress hall at the zoo as well as the Moritzbastei
  • Excellent organization of the conference and the party
  • Good presentations with lots of food for thought and visions
  • Interesting meetings and discussions between the lectures

A small suggestion I would like to attach: There was a good app for the event with all the important information and one each brief summary of the presentations. In addition, there was a print version with all presentations. Here, however, only the title and the speaker of the talks were called. This left many titles much room for speculation. Each 1-2 Sets the content would be useful, to know what to expect. It was very annoying when you had to choose between two interesting presentations and then finally for the wrong decision has.
but, one point: m.E. Two lectures were canceled at short notice or. replaced. This could have been communicated more clearly.

I can only recommend the MMDE for agencies, Developers and retailers, associated with Magento and want to broaden their horizons. See you 2019!

Since 2009 I have been working intensively with Magento. I started with the creation and operation of B2C stores. This was extended through my work in the logistics sector. This resulted first specialized B2E systems. Today I work day-a day with exciting B2C, B2B- and B2E projects and reports in this blog about challenges and give insider tips.
